Configuration Wizard
Configuration Wizard is a tool in Application Configurator that enables Account Managers to move configuration files from a local machine to Platform Storage, SharePoint, or a network location. It is used when users have additional local files that need to be pushed to their configured storage location.
Note: Configuration Wizard is separate from Profile Wizard. Profile Wizard is used to create GL profiles. Configuration Wizard is used to deploy files to a storage location.
Prerequisites
- Spreadsheet Server v26.2 or later
- Account Manager role — from v26.2 onwards, Application Configurator is installed only on Account Manager machines. Only Account Managers can access and use Configuration Wizard.
- Files to be deployed must be saved in the correct local folders before running Configuration Wizard
Access Configuration Wizard
Configuration Wizard is accessed from within Application Configurator:
- Open Application Configurator.
- Click File > Settings.
- Configuration Wizard opens from the Settings screen.
Before You Run Configuration Wizard
Before running Configuration Wizard, save your current settings in Application Configurator. This ensures that the DotNetConnections and DotNetSecurity files saved locally are up to date and are not overwritten with an older version during the process.
- Open Application Configurator.
- Click Refresh to sync your local configuration files.
- Click Save to save the current state of your settings.
Note: Clicking Save ensures that the DotNetConnections and DotNetSecurity files are saved locally. This prevents an outdated version of these files from being pushed to your storage location.
Deploy Files to Platform Storage
Use this procedure when you have local files that need to be added to Platform Storage. This is the only way to move additional local files to Platform Storage after migration.
Note: Platform Storage migration happens automatically when you open Application Configurator for the first time on v26.2 or later. Configuration Wizard is used only when you need to push additional local files to Platform Storage after migration.
- Complete the steps in Before You Run Configuration Wizard.
- Place the files you want to deploy (CustomGL profiles, Ad Hoc queries, Query Designer definitions) in the correct local Spreadsheet Server folders on your C drive.
- Open Application Configurator and access Configuration Wizard from File > Settings.
- On the Welcome screen, your current storage location (Platform Storage) is displayed. Since you are on Platform Storage, you cannot opt out. Click Next.
- Review the list of files that will be pushed to Platform Storage. The list includes Ad Hoc queries, CustomGL profiles, Query Designer definitions, application data, DotNetConnections, and DotNetSecurity files.
- Click Next to begin the file deployment.
- If a file with the same name already exists in Platform Storage, Configuration Wizard prompts you to confirm whether you want to overwrite it. Click Yes to overwrite or No to keep the existing file in Platform Storage.
- Click Finish. Configuration Wizard copies the files to Platform Storage.
Note: The following files are not pushed to Platform Storage and remain local: SSSettings.xml, ACSettings.xml, Samples, Components, and Backups.
Deploy Files to SharePoint
Use this procedure when you want to move files from a local machine to a SharePoint location, or when setting up SharePoint as your storage location for the first time.
- Complete the steps in Before You Run Configuration Wizard.
- Place the files you want to deploy in the correct local Spreadsheet Server folders on your C drive.
- Open Application Configurator and access Configuration Wizard from File > Settings.
- On the Welcome screen, select your ERP from the list if prompted.
- Select SharePoint as your storage location.
- Click Browse. A browser window opens and prompts you to sign in to SharePoint.
- Sign in to SharePoint. Once signed in, the file browser displays all SharePoint sites and document libraries associated with your account.
- Navigate to and select the folder where you want to store your files. Click OK.
- Click Next. Review the list of files that will be copied to SharePoint.
- Click Next to begin the file deployment.
- If a file with the same name already exists in the SharePoint location, Configuration Wizard prompts you to confirm whether you want to overwrite it.
- Click Finish. Configuration Wizard copies the files to SharePoint.
Note: SharePoint authentication is cached after the first sign-in. You will not be prompted to sign in again for future Configuration Wizard sessions.
Deploy Files to a Network Location
Use this procedure when you want to move files from a local machine to a shared network folder.
- Select Network as your storage location.
- Browse to and select the shared network folder where you want to store your files.
- Click Next. Review the list of files that will be copied to the network location.
- Click Next to begin the file deployment.
- If a file with the same name already exists in the network location, Configuration Wizard prompts you to confirm whether you want to overwrite it.
- Click Finish. Configuration Wizard copies the files to the network location.
File Deployment Behavior
Configuration Wizard follows these rules when deploying files:
- New files are added: Files that exist locally but not in the storage location are copied over.
- Existing files are not automatically overwritten: If a file with the same name already exists in the storage location, Configuration Wizard prompts you before overwriting.
- Locally deleted files are not removed from storage: If you delete a file from your local machine and then run Configuration Wizard, that file remains in Platform Storage, SharePoint, or the network location. Configuration Wizard does not delete files from the storage location.
Note: This behavior is consistent across Platform Storage, SharePoint, and Network storage locations.
Account Manager Role Requirement
From Spreadsheet Server v26.2 onwards, Application Configurator is installed only on Account Manager machines. During installation, the system checks the user's role in Platform. If the user is an Account Manager, Application Configurator is automatically selected and cannot be deselected. If the user is not an Account Manager, Application Configurator is not available for installation.
This means that only Account Managers can access and use Configuration Wizard. If a user who had Application Configurator installed on a pre-26.2 version upgrades to v26.2 or later and is not an Account Manager, they receive a warning that Application Configurator will be uninstalled.
Note: Application Configurator still requires a password to open, even on Account Manager machines.
