Additional Components

This article defines all additional components of Spreadsheet Server.

Required Components

The following component is required:

Application Configurator

A single installation of Application Configurator for Spreadsheet Server must be completed by the administrator, and each user must be established and assigned a valid license key prior to using Spreadsheet Server. Contact the security administrator for the network location of the security and connections file.

Optional Components

Based on the database type to which Spreadsheet Server and/or Query Designer is connecting to, additional software components may be required prior to processing. Contact your IT department to determine what is required to be installed.

Data Source Name (DSN) Database

From the desktop, navigate to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC) to create the DSN.

iSeries DB2 Database

Both the ODBC and the OLEDB provider components of the IBM iSeries Access for Windows (formerly named Client Access Express) must be installed on each user's machine. Run the setup program within IBM iSeries Access for Windows to determine that the ODBC and OLEDB provider components are installed.

Microsoft Access Database

No further software is required to provide connectivity to an Access database (MDB file).

Microsoft SQL Server Database

No further software is required to provide connectivity to a SQL Server database, as the ODBC driver used is already loaded with Windows.

Oracle Client

No further software is required to provide connectivity to an Oracle database, as insightsoftware provides a direct connection. However, if you desire to connect to the Oracle database via the Oracle Client ODBC provider, the Oracle Client software must be installed on each user's machine. Within Oracle Client, configure the local service name, and assign the appropriate host name and port number.

Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) Support

From the 25.1 release onwards, Spreadsheet Server can connect to and support Oracle ADW connections. This connection supports the full use of GL and operational data.

Customer Prerequisites

  • A .zip Oracle Wallet file. To obtain your wallet file, refer to the instructions provided at this link.

    Note: Keep the Wallet zipped.

  • Wallet Password

Enable Support in Application Configurator for Oracle ADW Connections

  1. Open Application Configurator and create an Oracle Connection.

  2. Name the connection, or example, Oracle ADW.

  3. Check the box for Autonomous.

  4. Click Load Wallet, enter the Wallet Password, and browse for the .zip Wallet file.

  5. Click Load.

  6. Fill out the User Name and Password.

  7. Test the connection, save your settings, and push the configuration to the network if applicable.

You have successfully enabled support for Oracle ADW connections in the Application Configurator.

SAP Database

To access a SAP database in Spreadsheet Server, SAP Netweaver 7.0 or higher must be installed.

  • Disk space requirements on the server are negligible (less than 10 MB).
  • The SAP adapter is imported to the system via an SAP transport in the /ZGLBSOFT/ reserved namespace. This is an SAP approved mechanism for third-party software, which ensures no standard or custom code is overwritten on the customer system.
  • No additional servers or server hardware is required.

Optional Components When Using Distribution Manager

The following components are optional if using Distribution Manager:

Distributor Outlook Add-In

For Excel users utilizing Outlook, the Distributor Outlook Add-In is a prerequisite for Distribution Manager. If it is not installed, the Distribution Manager Settings function will force the installation of the Distributor Outlook Add-In, prior to allowing the user to select Microsoft Outlook Exchange as the Email Server option.

Microsoft Collaboration Data Objects

For Excel users utilizing Outlook, Microsoft Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) is a prerequisite for Distribution Manager.  If it is not installed, the Distribution Manager Settings function will force the installation of CDO prior to allowing the user to select Microsoft Outlook Exchange as the Email Server option.

Optional Components When Using Profile Scheduler

The following component is optional if using Profile Scheduler:

Microsoft Command Line Utilities for SQL Server

Microsoft Command Line Utilities for SQL Server is an optional component. However, when it is loaded on the same machine as Profile Scheduler, the Profile Scheduler component takes advantage of the tools in an effort to increase processing speed and performance.

SharePoint Integration for Configuration File Management

Overview

Spreadsheet Server now supports SharePoint as a direct source for managing and storing configuration files, addressing the market shift towards cloud-based SaaS ecosystems. This feature enables organizations to map all configuration files directly to SharePoint locations while maintaining functionality for CustomGL, Ad Hoc Queries, Queries, and Application Data.

Prerequisites

  • v25.3 or later
  • Read and write permissions for all personnel to access and update files on SharePoint in the designated location

Configuration Steps

Performance Considerations

Before starting, understand that performance may be slower when routing operations through SharePoint. This can impact the time to open Excel, launch the Formula Builder, open the Query Designer, or recalculate reports.

File Migration

Save copies of the following files to a SharePoint location. This typically includes everything in the path: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Global Software Inc\

  • dotnetsecurity.xml
  • dotnetconnections.xml
  • CustomGL folder
  • AdHocQueries folder
  • Query Designer → Queries Folder
  • Application Data folder

Application Configurator Setup

  1. Navigate to Application Configurator Settings and locate the new Storage Location option for SharePoint
  2. Select SharePoint location - authentication prompt appears immediately
  3. After authentication, browse to search for a SharePoint destination
  4. Select the target folder
  5. Save configuration
  6. Push to network

Application Settings Configuration

  1. Navigate to the Application Settings Tab
  2. Update location paths for:
    • Segment List Folder
    • AdHoc's Folder and Designer GL Definition Folder
    • EDQ files folder
  3. Save changes and push to network

Client Configuration

  1. Open Excel and navigate to Settings
  2. Critical Step: This must be completed for all licensed personnel on all machines
  3. Update the Network and Security Files Folder location to match the SharePoint location defined in previous steps
  4. Verify the File Locations tab to ensure all paths have been updated
  5. Update file locations for any highlighted rows that require correction

Alternative Setup Method

SharePoint integration is also available through the Configuration Wizard for organizations that prefer guided setup.
